Hexis - Dual Sensor Instrument (Seismometer + Accelerometer)

Overview

The Hexis combines a Certis broadband seismometer and a Fortis strong-motion accelerometer in a single posthole-deployable package. With a combined dynamic range exceeding 200 dB, it simultaneously captures both distant/weak seismic events and near-field high-intensity shaking — eliminating the need for two separate instruments at the same site.

Key Specifications

  • Configuration: Triaxial (ZNE) for both sensors
  • Combined Dynamic Range: >200 dB
  • Velocity Sensor: 120 s to 100 Hz | 750 V/ms⁻¹ | −173 dB self-noise at 10 s
  • Acceleration Sensor: DC to 100 Hz | ±4g / ±2g / ±1g / ±0.5g selectable
  • Diameter: 126 mm | Height: 203 mm
  • Weight: 7.8 kg (disconnected)
  • Housing: Stainless steel; waterproof to 100 bar / 10 MPa
  • Internal sensors: thermometer, pressure gauge, humidity sensor

Applications

  • Combined weak and strong-motion monitoring
  • Full seismic dynamic range coverage at a single site
  • Research requiring complete frequency coverage
  • Structural health monitoring
  • Induced seismicity monitoring programs
